Headaches and migraines are unwelcome visitors. Headache sufferers are usually quite ready for tips on how to prevent them. Migraine (a primary
headache) sufferers over the age of 50 find themselves part of a global
community with migraine being a leading cause of
disability. (1) Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation offers
some prevention tips and treatment relief suggestions especially
for our Carrolltown headache and migraine sufferers.
DIET AND WEIGHT
A healthy diet feeds the body and the mind. Researchers
have described that migraine triggers appear
in a variety of forms - environmental, hormonal, and dietary.
A high-quality diet effectively helps manage
migraine. Further, and more specifically, women
with chronic migraine had a poorer quality diet than that of women with episodic
migraine. (2) Another study was
even more specific with the type of diet beneficial to
migraine patients, specifically overweight folks. A very low-calorie ketogenic diet was found
to be episodic-migraine preventative. Effectiveness
was observed within one month of the diet change.
(3) Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation is not urging that any
of our patients start a specific
diet now! If a Carrolltown headache sufferer chooses
to try a new diet, Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation is here to talk
and decide which diet (if any special one) is proper.
NUTRITION: Vitamin D
In much the same
way, vitamin D supplementation is presented. Vitamin D deficiency has been reported
in 45% to 100% of migraine sufferers. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics
of vitamin D have initiated
a look at including it in the care and prevention of headache and migraine.
One study reported that trial doses of 1000-4000 IU per day reduced
the frequency of migraine in addition to routine drug
therapy. More analysis needs to be completed,
but vitamin D supplementation seems encouraging.

individual Carrolltown chiropractic patient and recommends
supplementation when appropriate.
CHIROPRACTIC AND INTEGRATIVE CARE
Headaches of all sorts – primary
headaches like migraine and tension-type headache – are everyday
complaints brought to the Carrolltown chiropractor. Research stated
that complementary and integrative medicine - nutrition, movement (yoga),
manual therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage,
biofeedback, meditation, and mind-body strategies – was beneficial.
More specifically, spinal manipulation, chiropractic care,
some supplements, diet change and hydrotherapy are reported helpful
for migraine headache. (4)
