A new clinical trial is starting that will study
the effectiveness of a 6-week specific rehab program combining
education and exercises on walking capacity in patients with
lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation knows
these Carrolltown spinal pain conditions very well…and offers
a relieving treatment plan of Cox® Technic spinal manipulation and mobilization
with exercise!
EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS TESTED
The aim of this preposed study is to investigate
whether adding an exercise program to an educational
program can improve walking capacity in sufferers with lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. This is a randomized
controlled clinical trial with 60 participants who will be randomly put in either the control group or the intervention group. The intervention group
will get an educational program and an exercise
program, while the control group will only get the educational
program. The primary outcome measure is walking capacity, while the
secondary outcome measures are pain intensity, disability level, and quality of
life. (1) Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation knows our Carrolltown spinal stenosis patients are
very interested in these outcomes!
LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS WITH NEUROGENIC CLAUDICATION
Lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication is a condition that causes narrowing of the spinal canal in
the lower back region, resulting in pressure on the nerves. This can result in pain,
numbness, and weakness in the legs and buttocks. In severe
cases, it can also cause difficulty walking.
The condition is most common in people over the age of 50. These are just the people in
Carrolltown who need to keep (or at least start) exercising!
THE EXERCISES
The specific exercises that will be directed
in this study are designed to improve
walking capacity by stretching and strengthening the muscles around
the spine. The hope is that by performing these exercises regularly, patients will experience less pain
and disability and experience a better quality of
life.
THE CONTROL GROUP
The control group in this trial will only get
an educational program about their condition and how to manage it. While education is important, it is not typically
enough on its own to provide significant relief from symptoms. That's why the addition of an exercise program is
so important. It includes the back
pain sufferer in his or her relief! Listen to this PODCAST
with Dr. Michael McMurray on The Back Doctors Podcast with
Dr. Michael Johnson as he details The
Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management for lumbar spinal stenosis.
